Playing "Smooth"Return to CD listingEdwin:"Smooth" was written...I've been here seventeen years...that was written...about fifteen years ago. A very good friend of mine used to sing with the Drifters...with the original Drifters...we just saw him recently in New York, his name was Butch Leak...and Butch and I used to toy around with the songs and ideas when I lived in London 'cause basically that was all I could do at that time 'cause I was just building my work platform and this was when I first come back over here, so I wasn't doing a lot of work but I had a lot of time. So I toyed with the idea of a reggae song. I had another really good African friend by the name of Aki Dean. I said I'd got a really good idea for a reggae song but I don't know any reggae musicians. He said "Well I'll tell you what, I'll get you the best players that are available", he said it'll be cool, it won't cost you a lot of money, so he got the best plyers that you could get, right, and we went in and cut the song and everybody loved it. Even now when people play it they love it. It's all the best musicians, I couldn't tell you who they were but it was in the old PRT studios. It was a good session. |
